BRIBIE ISLAND
The Bribie Island paintings were mostly generated across a two year period in which I was working as a part-time string teacher in the schools on the island. Most weeks I was able to put paint to paper and come away with some pleasing results. Interestingly, my initial artistic endeavours on the island were in the late 1970s when, in my youth, I painted numerous images there. The attraction, for an artist, is that in a relatively small geographic area, there are countless motives and ideas. Even similar subject matter can be presented in quite a variety of ways, depending upon the compositional structure of the painting, the time of day, and the play of light and shadow.
